Take Safety Home: Fire Prevention Week 2021
Fire Prevention Week 2021 started on October 3rd and ran through October 9th.
The theme this year is “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety!”
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign’s theme , “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety!” works to educate everyone about the different sounds that smoke and carbon monoxide alarms make. When an alarm makes noises – a beeping sound or a chirping sound – you must take action. Knowing what to do when an alarm sounds will keep you and your family safe.
Know the Different Sound of the Safety Devices
Is there a beep or a chirp coming out of your smoke or carbon monoxide alarm? What does it all mean?
Knowing the difference can save you, your home, and your family! Make sure everyone in the home
understands the different sounds that the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors make and how to respond accordingly. Learn the sounds of your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms by checking the user guide or
search the brand and model online.
Overall Home Fire Safety Planning and Practice is Vital
Does your family have an overall Home Fire Safety Plan? Does your family know what to do in an emergency situation, such as a house fire? How about preventing a house fire? Working smoke alarms, home fire sprinklers, a home fire escape plan and identifying potential hazards are all important parts of a home fire safety plan that will protect your family and property from a fire. However it’s not enough to just develop your plan; it is important that your family practice your escape plan at least twice a year.
