Supporting Transportation Infrastructure

In 2021, Congress passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act), a once-in-a-generation investment in our nation’s infrastructure and competitiveness.

This Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will help to rebuild America’s roads, bridges and rails, expand access to clean drinking water, ensure every American has access to high-speed internet, tackle the climate crisis, advance environmental justice, and invest in communities that have too often been left behind.

Most recently in January, The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) announced $27 billion in funding over the next five years, to replace, repair, and rehabilitate bridges across the country.

Safety Priorities and Government Contracts

In the coming months and years, this Bill will energize major highway transportation projects across the country.  With more government contracts being initiated, the need to meet government contracting requirements, and focus on safety concerns will be a major priority. Diversity requirements will be an even bigger part of the equation when bidding for a government funded contract.

President Biden announced a bold new goal: increasing the share of contracts going to small, disadvantaged businesses by 50 percent by 2025 – an unprecedented target projected to translate to an additional $100 billion to SDBs over 5 years.  The announcement built on the President’s Day One Executive Order 13985, which directed agencies to work to make contracting opportunities more readily available to all eligible firms and to remove barriers faced by underserved individuals and communities, including women-owned businesses.

Experience Counts: Projects in Progress

The Harford Road Bridge Project

Currently, Compliance Consultants, Inc. is working on two large-scale infrastructure projects. CCI is working with the City of Baltimore and Technopref, the client, on what is a complete tear-down and replacement of a 4 -lane bridge, called The Harford Road Bridge Project, in Baltimore, MD.

As with all major and large infrastructure projects the potential hazards are many.  Working over water, falls, cranes/rigging, excavation hazards, concrete, pre-cast concrete, public safety all present the possibility of accidents and injury, which could result in project setbacks.  Safety at these complex and challenging sites needs to be a top priority for any contractor.

For this particular project site, CCI is providing broad safety consulting services, biweekly site inspections and reporting.  CCI is also conducting ongoing safety talks, and continuous trainings with the worksite crew to keep them up-to-date and informed of any potential jobsite hazards.

The Allison Flood Control Levee Rehabilitation

Additionally, CCI is working again with Technopref and St. Georges, MD on the Allison Street Flood Control Project Levee Rehabilitation and 34th Street Bridge Replacement project.  Many of the exact same potential hazards are concerns on this jobsite as well, but CCI is highly engaged in providing ongoing safety consulting to help mitigate any possible accidents or injuries.  Again, CCI is providing safety consulting services, biweekly inspections, and conducts safety talks/trainings with the crew as well.

CCI Can Help You Meet Both Safety and Diversity Requirements

In the coming months and years, the impact of the investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will be felt throughout the country.  It’s important to be well-positioned and ready to bid on these large contracts and to have the right partners in place.
