Take Time Out for a Safety Stand-Down

Encourage Worksite Safety, Support National Safety Stand-Down Week

National Safety Stand-Down Week (May 6-10, 2024) is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about fall protection. Employers from all over the country cease work for a short period of time to coordinate a safety training or activity which educates their workers on the importance of complying with fall protection training, methods, and standards.

According to OSHA, anyone who wants to prevent hazards in the workplace can participate in the National Safety Stand-Down. In past years, participants included commercial construction companies of all sizes, residential construction contractors, sub- and independent contractors, highway construction companies, general industry employers, the U.S. Military, other government participants, unions, employer’s trade associations, institutes, employee interest organizations, and safety equipment manufacturers.

Further, OSHA suggest that companies can conduct a National Safety Stand-Down by offering a toolbox talk or another safety activity, such as conducting safety equipment inspections, developing rescue plans, or discussing job specific hazards. Managers are encouraged to plan a stand-down that works best for their workplace anytime.
